Much of the internet is geared toward information about the PC. What about the Mac Users out there? The Safari Browser is a top choice for many Mac users. What about displaying a Favicon in Apple Safari?
So I need to make a confession, I am NOT only a PC user. I am also a Mac user. In my collection of around 10 computers I have an Apple Mac Mini. I bought it a few years ago (it is the Power PC version – Not the Intel). I find it to be a great little computer. It is not a high power gaming machine, but works great for surfing and practicing my Linux Skills.
On to the Topic at Hand. What if you use the Safari Browser and your newly deployed favicon isn’t showing up? Actually the Safari Browser suffers from the same strange behavior as all the other browsers. Sometimes the favicon just does NOT show up! Well it is a simple fix. You just need to clear your Cache. I have spoken to Cache Clearing on my other post FavIcon Installation Basics – Site Hosted On Your Domain.
Clearing your browser cache on Safari is actually the easiest of all web browsers. Just pull down the Safari Menu and Choose Empty Cache. If you aren’t sure, here is an article on EHow.com:
How to Delete memory Cache on Safari
This will walk you through exactly how to do it. As with the other Cache Clearing, just go back to your site, and your Favicon should appear.
As for Internet Explorer on the Mac, I have heard conflicting reports that clearing your cache may not work. You will need to bookmark the site in order for the favicon to work. I am still researching this. Let me know if you have any experience with IE on the Mac.
Firefox on the Mac is just like the PC. Select the Tools pulldown menu and click Clear Private Data.
I hope this has cleared up any confusion. Just remember if your favicon isn’t showing up, the first thing to do is Clear Your Browser Cache!
